Our product automates the digital creation of labels that get physically applied to cannabis products in Canada. The information required and its design are heavily regulated by Health Canada, and currently, companies are manually designing labels in software like Illustrator. This is a tedious, time-consuming process – we know this, because it’s been our job too. We wanted a solution to the headache of label making, so we made Cannaply.

Any Canadian company that packages cannabis for sale. As our product is built around Health Canada’s regulations, we can only offer services to Canadian companies.

If you've ordered a pizza online, you can make a cannabis label. Once you sign into the app, you'll follow the prompt to make a label. You simply fill in the fields with your product's information, which is typically surfaced by your production team. To see what info you need, check out the FAQ response to "What information do I need to make my first label?".
Once you've inputted all your information, you have the option to first preview your label. A pop-up PDF will generate with a watermark. Here you can preview exactly what the label will look like. If it looks right, you'll navigate back to the app and hit finalize & download to generate the label PDF with no watermark. This will use up a credit. If the label needs editing, simply navigate back to the fields and edit your inputs.

Almost! You’ll need to add your barcode separately, either digitally or with a sticker. Depending on what product you are labeling, you may also need to apply a nutrition table, packaging/durable life date, and a lot number. These are pieces of information that are typically applied on a sticker.

Making labels manually each time a company has a new SKU is burdensome, mainly due to:
Labor cost: a designer or someone familiar with design software will spend two+ hours making a single label, depending on their familiarity with programs like Illustrator and with Health Canada’s regulations.
Headaches: while we understand the need for regulations, it can be really tricky to stay informed of and follow Health Canada’s packaging guidelines. Each class of cannabis and it’s packaging type require different information, and there are specifics in regards to design like type spacing, padding, and placement.
QA and legal cost: designers often have to hand off the labels to their QA or legal team to then approve the label before moving it to print.
Recalls: Health Canada doesn’t pre-approve labels, they only audit those that are already on the shelf. If they deem a label incompliant for any reason they have the right to force a recall of those products. Companies then have to pull the product, re-label the package, and ship it back to stores.
Outsourcing: some companies choose to completely outsource the labeling of their products to other organizations, at a rough cost of $2000 per label.
We believe that we have brought the Canadian cannabis industry a solution that saves immense amounts of time, energy, and money. Labeling doesn’t have to be a headache any longer.

No, however we have designed the outputs to leave room for these pieces of information. Ensure that your package dimensions are large enough to accommodate any additional information you'll need to add on separately. You can do this by previewing the label before downloading. This information is usually printed on at the time of packaging or added on with a sticker.

Yes, you can read them here. While our labeling software is designed to assist companies in achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance, users are ultimately responsible for the packaging they enter in the market. The user is also responsible for adding additional information, such as the barcode, and thus the final product's packaging is out of our hands. Therefore, we cannot assume liability for any non-compliance issues that may arise despite the use of our software.
